In his first official meeting with the traditional rulers of the area on Thursday, 17th April, 2025 at the Council Secretariat, Degema, the newly appointed Administrator of Degema Local Government Area, Dr. Sokari Ibifuro Francis, PhD, LSN, Ambassador of Peace, outlined his ambitious plans to address the area's pressing concerns.

Addressing the monarchs, Dr. Ibifuro expressed his appreciation for their prompt attendance at the meeting despite the short notice of the invitation, emphasizing the importance of maintaining political neutrality in their roles as traditional leaders. He then went on to outline several key initiatives that will shape his task as he is directed by the Sole Administrator of the State.

Firstly, the LGA Administrator stressed his intention to work closely with the traditional rulers to maintain peace and stability in the region. He urged them to discourage the residents of their domain from carrying out any activities that could potentially lead to unrest, such as protests, and pledged to handle grievances through official channels. He reiterated the commitment of the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd), to stabilize the state and support the traditional institutions.

Turning to the state of public services, Dr. Ibifuro acknowledged the decay in the healthcare and education sectors, and vowed to take immediate action. He promised to ensure the availability of essential drugs and equipment in local health facilities, with a particular focus on serving the elderly, pregnant women, and children. Furthermore, he pledged to provide basic learning materials for students before the next academic term, emphasizing that quality education is a fundamental right, not a privilege.

To address these challenges, Dr. Ibifuro outlined plans to engage volunteer teachers and provide financial support for officials during the upcoming Senior School Certificate Examinations. Additionally, he disclosed the establishment of two new committees – one dedicated to overseeing sanitation efforts, and another focused on youth empowerment through skill acquisition and other programmes.

On their part, the traditional rulers expressed their appreciation for the Administrator's proactive approach and commitment to the well-being of the people of the LGA. The chairman of the Traditional Rulers, the Amayanabo of Ke Kingdom, HRM Rt. Hon. (King) Agolia Aboko Omoni (XII), speaking on behalf of the group, assured the Administrator of their continued collaboration and support in maintaining peace and implementing his vision for the region.

Amongst the attendees were HRH, Rt. Hon.
